Bug in a Bag

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010 | Angst, Family, Knitting, Marriage | 3 Comments

Well, it’s amazing how quickly times goes. Seems this blog is going to bear the brunt of my lack of time management skills.

So much has been going on. Spawn #2 has graduated from high school, went to Stitches, our friend, Andrew “Myagi” Mavor came to stay with us and rocked our graduation party, and I’ve been occupying myself with kicking and stomping on things.

On Sunday evening, I saw a bug on the floor - a palmetto bug. Go ahead and look. We’ve had to have some repair work done on the house along with some painting, so we have all sorts of things coming inside to visit. It was on it’s back and not moving, but the minute I scooped it up in an empty dogfood bag, it started to skitter, so I shook the bag and dropped it on the floor and stomped on it. I stomped on a bag on a concrete floor. Let that sink in. It hurt so bad, I thought I had broken it. I gimped around on Monday, Memorial Day, while our lovely friends were there and then Tuesday hockeydad took me to the emergency room. Here’s how we wait in emergency rooms:

Turns out, I didn’t break it, but I did bruise the bone and we discovered I have a heel spur. I sound like a wimp, but let me tell ya, this hurts. A. Lot.

The sock is being knit from Zauberball Crazy Sock and let me tell ya, I love the colors and hd loves the sock, but it’s not very consistently plied. I’m on the cuff now and should be able to start the second one this weekend.

There is one thing I want to say. If you are in Atlanta or a suburb thereof and ever hurt yourself or need emergency care - go to Northside. They rocked it like nothing I’ve ever seen. 2 hours start to finish and that included x-rays. And a cool shoe and pain meds.

I have other things to share, but I think this is enough for now. Don’t you agree?

A Word From Kanye

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009 | Angst | 3 Comments

HockeyDad, Spawn #2 and I have been dealing with a flooding problem in our basement. It’s by no means as bad as what some people have had to deal with so I’m trying to keep light and happy. So far, I’m at a 50% success rate.  Someone here at work found a funny on this site and I just had to share the picture:

Cue hold music

Monday, August 17th, 2009 | Angst, Baby Kaylyn | 3 Comments

The spinning in my head continues although it is seeming to get a little bit less every day. Doc put me on all kinds of meds now so, if I’m not better in the prerequisite week to ten days, I’ll go back. Don’tcha love the fancy talk? It happens sometimes when I get all doped up.

Didn’t get to go to dinner with a friend and her hub for his birthday (you know who you are) as I spent much of my time on the sofa, keeping the corner from collapsing. On Sunday, I had hoped to go see my baby, but again, the sofa needed me. Badly.

But my sis obligingly sent me some of teh cute for your pleasure. Try not to plotz.

Someone call the wah-mbulance

Thursday, July 9th, 2009 | Angst, Tour de Fleece | 1 Comment

or what I didn’t get done on Day 5 of Tour de Fleece. For the second time in as many days, I got glutened and only had enough energy to work on blending up a few batts. My intent was to get them all finished last night so I could start spinning tonight some time, but nope. Only got a few done. Plus I didn’t get off work til 8 last night. I am about 2/3 of the way through, but I may need to add a bit more alpaca to a couple of the batts to darken ‘em up a teensy bit more. Or maybe I’m being picky. Probably would help if I could look at these darn things in daylight!!

Why do people feel the need to throw gratuitous gluten in everything?!!!

If I don’t blog, does anyone hear?

Monday, June 22nd, 2009 | Angst, Family, General, Knitting, Spinning | 4 Comments

Sheesh. Been a few days since I’ve put fingers to keyboard, eh? When things get all angsty, it seems the blog is the first to go, followed by my knitting and housework. I don’t mind about the housework, but I’ve just not felt much like getting any knitting accomplished which makes me even more sad, and then nothing gets done. I did get Tomato finished - here’s the crappy shot taken in the bathroom at work:

I’m happy with it, it looks good on me. A success! I’ll continue to work bits and pieces of my Forest Canopy and the little Sunflower/Ladybug dolls out of The Twist Collective for Kaylyn but just not driven to finish them any time soon.  Ennui - it’s just not for breakfast.

I am spinning, a little bit. On bobbin #4 of the lovely roving from Knit Witch, so it’s not all bad. In order to “rev up the excitement” I’ve joined the 2009 Tour de Fleece challenge. My goal  is to get all the yarn spun up for HockeyDad’s Cobblestone. Then, come mid-August, I’ll see if I can cast that bad boy on to the needles! In order to do that however, I must finish blending the alpaca, shetland and corriedale waiting patiently for me! Think I can do it? I mean, really. It’s what - two weeks away from starting? Hmmm?  Am I crazy? Maybe.’Specially since I’ve tweaked the wrist I broke last summer.

Plus, we’re now on baby watch ‘09. Little Kaylyn is to make her debut by the end of the month (lord, please - her mama is getting uncomfortable), and I’m going to be there to witness, help, cheer on and take videos of her entrance into the world. I’m so excited and I know my sister is. This will give her something to focus on and look forward to! She loves the babies and since this is her first grandchild it’s all the better!

Floating Away

Thursday, June 4th, 2009 | Angst, Knitting | 5 Comments

I’ve been ignoring a pinch in my back hip for about 3 months now. Just cause. Well, it seems I’ve been tweaking a muscle off and on and it finally said “enough!” I finally went to the docs, got my muscle relaxant and anti-inflammatory drugs and now I’m home, waiting for it to kick in. And, oh, yeah, I have gout in my left foot. WTF?

There will be no spinning for a while. I have to avoid the twisting of the back for a few days. But I have my #6 dpns now and can finish Tomato! I’m literally 4 rows away on each sleeve and then I weave and block. But no shucking and jiving for a while. Nope.

And, It’s Broken

Thursday, May 7th, 2009 | Angst, Family | 11 Comments

My brother-in-law, Steve, passed away today. He was only 51. Please keep my sister, niece and nephew in your thoughts.

The blog will be dark for a bit - I may have something to say tomorrow, or next week, or maybe next month. I just don’t know.

Breaking Heart

Thursday, April 30th, 2009 | Angst, Family | 14 Comments

My brother-in-law took a turn for the worse (what does that even mean?) overnight and they’ve given him 12-24 hours to live. My heart is breaking off little bits at a time today. Please keep my sister and her family in your thoughts and if you have a deity or higher power you pray to, ask him to pull one of out of his ass and keep Steve with us.  We aren’t ready to let him go.

An update

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009 | Angst, Family | 4 Comments

My brother came out of surgery okay, but it took much longer than they thought. They also removed his lymph nodes and it will be at least a week before they get the results to see if the cancer has spread. That will determine the need for and the type of chemo he will receive.

My BIL is not getting better, in fact, his temp keeps spiking to 104 and they cannot figure out what has brought this on. He’s on a respirator and hasn’t been able to talk since Friday last week. More tests are being done today, looking beyond his lungs to see if there is something else there they don’t know about.

I am supposed to go to Stitches tomorrow and Friday and take classes. It feels incredibly selfish to do this right now, but I also need to take this time for myself. The last year has been rough and it may be what keeps me sane.

I have been working on baby socks and almost have one pair finished. It’s all I’ve had the energy for. And a tiny bit of spinning.

Needing some prayers please

Monday, April 20th, 2009 | Angst, Family | 7 Comments

Tomorrow my brother has surgery to remove a tumor. The good news is it is well contained and it does not look like it has spread. My brother-in-law is in ICU because he is in acute respiratory distress due to pneumonia. All prayers and good thoughts sure would be appreciated.

I would like to declare 2009 has used up it’s allowance of crap and needs to progress in a more acceptable fashion.
