My friend Jane, knit a lovely sweater, Hey Teach, for herself and through some cursed/magical happening, it ended up too large for her. She posted about it, stated she didn’t have the heart to knit it again and to please leave a comment if you wanted it.
Well, I did. And because she’s my friend and it’s my 50th birthday all week, she is giving it to me! I’m am beyond words, and so lucky to have such a wonderful friend.
Go to the post linked to her name. It’s beautiful!
Thank you Jane!

The Crystal Method is in town for a DJ set tonight and it’s time to dance! Claudia and the Coach will be there along with our good friends Rob and Deb, and Bruce rounds out the ensemble.
To dance is good.
It’s A Most Wonderful Time of the Year
Wednesday, October 21st, 2009 | Friends, Knitting, Spinning, Weaving | 5 Comments
Tomorrow evening, HockeyDad and I head out to SAFF - The Southeastern Animal and Fiber Fair. This is my mecca and this marks the third year I’m going. I love it all - the animals, the fiber in various forms, and most of all, the friends I’ve made who will be there. This is the only time of year I get to see most of them and I’m just giddy with anticipation. Say a prayer for HockeyDad. This is his first time going and I’m not sure if he realizes just what he’s in for. We may be knitters, spinners and weavers, but we are one crazy group of people.
There will be pictures and stories I promise. So, if there are any readers left out there I will start posting next week.
Party on.
Saturdays are for Spinning

And cleaning, laundry and coffee drinking! Been a whole week since I posted! Eep. Been a busy week.
Our anniversary was wonderful, felt nice to get away and see our beautiful mountains. Wednesday night we were in the quarter-finals for our dart league. We didn’t win but we did put up a good fight. I actually won 2 of my 3 matches. Next season will be even better! We also went to see “Zombieland” on Thursday with friends, tapas and drinks last night with friends and tonight is dinner and “Couples Retreat” with friends. Haven’t seen friends in so long, it feels good to get out and hang again.
On Friday my nephew is getting married! Woo hoo! His intended is a wonderful young lady and we’re so excited to have her as part of the family. She fits right in - my family tends to overwhelm people cuz we’re so many and so loud, but she’s held her own since day 1. I see good times a-coming.
Weekend after next is SAFF and I’m hopped up like a kid on a sugar rush! Will be so good to see friends I haven’t seen since last year (or even the year before that - I’m looking at you Elizabeth). We’re going to be at the Awesomest Cabin on the Lake of Beauty and I promise there will be pictures of the spinning, knitting, eating, festivaling and debauchery (heh)!
Here’s the spinning (Abby Franquemont batt “Jungle Love”). It is by far one of the best prepped batts I’ve ever spun and I hope to be able to score more in the future. Her fibers go fast and furious. I scored mine from The Spinning Loft and if you ever need something, Beth and her crew will take care of you right! Super customer service.

And, because she’s just the sweetest, awesomest baby around, here’s BabyK:

Ready? Set? Squirrelize!!

Just found this pic of us rocking the squirrel at The Crystal Method show in Atlanta May 16. That dude can dance!
It’s my birthday, my b-b-b-b-birthday

Whew! Day 3 of my birthday vacation week and I’m already worn out! Bob, Bruce, our son Jordan and I took a short trip up to Charlotte to see The Crystal Method at Amos’ Southend and had a blast. They treated us to dinner at Mac’s Speed Shop and it was awesome. Check out some of the pics from last night on the Fan Site. Bob, Bruce and Jordan did a great job getting some photos and video of the show. I danced. My dad said it was cool how I would wake up this morning in the same town I was born in 49 years ago. Just seemed right.
Here’s a couple of pics of car knitting (this is a knitting blog, right?). Here’s the Sunflower doll dressed. I didn’t want to show a nakey baby doll:

And my Forest Canopy using my handspun singles. I’m liking how it looks like denim. I have so much of the pencil roving left I bought at SAFF I can probably make a scarf and hat or fingerless mitts out of what’s left.

Tonight, HD is grilling some steaks for my birthday dinner and we’re going to hang out at home with my boys. This is the best way to start a birthday week!
Tour de Fleece - Day 2
Sunday, July 5th, 2009 | Baby Kaylyn, Family, Friends, Spinning, Tour de Fleece | No Comments
Okay, so yesterday was day one. I did do some spinning, but not much. We had family and friends over for a “get together” plus little baby K came to visit too. That child is the bomb diggity - just gotta say it. Here she is with my mom:

Today, our friends hung out with us and I was able to get some more spinning in. I’m not spinning my challenge yet, which is to spin up 4# of Shetland/Alpaca/Corriedale blend for a sweater for HD, but I did spin 2.4 ounces/230 yards of a superwash merino batt from Miss Babs. Keeping it as a single. Probably make a nice scarf or hat and fingerless mitts from it. Some seriously sweet stuff. Here’s my set up with the Miss Babs still on it. Notice the important stuff is all there - wheel, wool, cup holder and pina colada. Why go anywhere else when it’s all Right. There.

I should be able to start the final blending tomorrow and maybe even get some spinning in.
Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July, an excellent Canada Day and a great weekend!
Boldly Go

Tonight, I think we’re going to hit the ole theatre and see “Star Trek.” Finally. I’ve been so excited about this movie, I could barely stand it. We tried to see it last Friday, but it was sold out so we saw “Angels and Demons” instead. Good flick. Stayed pretty close to the book and we enjoyed it.
I’m spinning some roving from The KnitWitch right now as well as some more cashmere. I have two more skeins ready to go to work on my Forest Canopy Shawl and I’m chugging along on my friend’s birthday stole. Pic here for evidence:

It’s simple, but looks very elegant and she loves it. 50/50 cotton/ackrylic and it has a few more inches on it now. She claims to not like wool. I should take back those socks I made her. Heh. I had to let her see the stole to prove I was working on it. It’s only 7 months late! But it’s how I roll.
Tomorrow, I may sit on the back porch and knit, have a swim, and then gather all my IRS stuff together. Need to get our taxes filed. We’re slow about stuff like that but with kids in college, need to get better. Gotta beg for money to send them and the gubmint is funny about getting their paperwork first.
Hope y’all have a great weekend.
A good weekend

This past Saturday night, The Crystal Method came to town to play a live show. Now, they come to Atlanta at least once a year to play DJ sets, but it’s been 5 years since they played live.
HockeyDad has a fansite, TheCrystalmethod.org, and it made an impression on Ken and Scott, so they invited him to do an interview with them before the show. These guys are so awesome! Down-to-earth, funny and just plain nice. They gave a great interview, backstage passes and an incredible show! If you like their music keep an eye on HD’s site, he will be posting the video interview over the next few days. BP, our intrepid in-house photographer and HD’s business partner, had a press pass and was able to get some great shots of the show and the backstage fun.
Oh, yeah, and a certain Bavgirl was there with her friend, John! Woohoo! That girl can dance. I’m still feeling the after-affects of staying up past my bedtime. Oy. Here’s a pic of some our crew that night.

Checking In - My Life & Stitches South
Saturday, April 25th, 2009 | Family, Friends, Knitting, Spinning | 3 Comments
I had two classes at Stitches South - Norwegian Purling taught by Beth Brown-Reinsel, and Fair Isle with Fiona Ellis. Both these ladies are awesome instructors - the purling was a techniques class (which I will need to practice a LOT) and the fair isle was a good class in color theory and how to pick colors for fair isle. Me not so good with color.
Thursday evening I had to run downtown for #1’s Art Exhibition - HD took some footage on my Flip camera and I promise to post. Very cool exhibit and I’m so proud of that boy. Afterwards, we ran back up to the Galleria and had dinner with Knitwitch and The Man, and the ever lovely Jenifluer! Too long since I’ve seen her.
Friday after my Fair Isle class, I met up with some Rubberneckers at Chipotle and had a great time! I was once a mod, but a very poor one, so thankfully, was relieved of my duties. But they still invited me to dine with them! Awesomeness in it’s best form.
After lunch, I hit the market place and did a little bit of damage, but not too much. I will take pictures and post. I purchased mostly tools of my trade (spinning trade that is), but I did find one luscious cone of alpaca silk at webs for $16!!!!! 1,736 yards!!! Aeolian is the project for that cone of love.
HD and I had a lovely dinner of sushi and then came home and crashed on the sofa for a while.
We have had good news on my brother - they got all the cancer and he will not have to go through chemo therapy! So, hopefully, he’s going home today. My brother-in-law is still in ICU, but they have finally isolated the strain of pneumonia he has and think they have him the right antibiotic. He has a long road ahead of him, there will be lots of therapy in his future - physical and respiratory. They don’t know yet the extent of the damage to his lungs he has suffered. Continued prayers will be appreciated!!
Tonight is dinner at Scalini’s organized by the Lovely Knitwitch. I cannot wait! I need more fun right now and all my wonderful friends have given it to me in spades! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The friends I have made since becoming a knitter and blogger have given me so much in love and support that it’s difficult to express. I thank you all so much. Without you all and my family, I would be a very sad person. Very sad indeed.
